Founded in 1969, the Timber Lakes Volunteer Fire Department (TLVFD) has proudly served the Timber Lakes and Timber Ridge communities for more than 57 years. For nearly 50 years, TLVFD operated as an all-volunteer fire department before transitioning to a combination staffing model in 2018.

A Proud History of Timber Lakes VFD Fire and EMS Service

TLVFD’s history extends beyond fire protection. From approximately 1975-1983, the department operated an ambulance service serving our community and surrounding areas.

TLVFD also holds the distinction of operating the first Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) in Montgomery County. The success of this program helped demonstrate the value of advanced pre-hospital emergency medical care and contributed to the Montgomery County Hospital District’s eventual transition to an all-MICU ambulance fleet and took over EMS transport.

We are extremely proud that a small volunteer fire department in South Montgomery County played a role in helping advance emergency medical care throughout the county. The impact of those early efforts can still be seen in the high level of emergency medical services available to Montgomery County residents today.

Timber Lakes Fire Department Today

Today, Timber Lakes VFD provides fire protection and emergency services to the Timber Lakes and Timber Ridge communities within Montgomery County Emergency Services District #14 (MCESD #14). Our district encompasses approximately three square miles and serves a growing population.

As our community and call volume continued to grow, TLVFD implemented a part-time duty crew program in 2018, providing staffing at the station 24 hours a day, seven days a week, while continuing to rely on the dedication and service of our volunteer members.

In 2019, TLVFD and the MCESD #14 Board began planning for a new fire station to meet the current and future needs of our community. After years of planning and construction, the new Station 141 opened in August 2025, providing our firefighters with a modern facility designed to serve the community for generations to come.

While our equipment, facilities, and operations have changed considerably since 1969, our mission remains the same: neighbors helping neighbors and providing the highest level of service possible to our community.

We encourage everyone to become involved in their community. Whether through the Volunteer Fire Department, HOA, Neighborhood Block Watch, Water Board, or another community organization, there is always an opportunity to lend a helping hand and make a difference.
