Become A Fire FighterVOLUNTEERING:

TLVFD Application for Membership

If you are interested in applying to become a volunteer fire fighter, contact the fire department to schedule a time to visit the station.

◦      Completion of an application with a criminal background check

▪      16 years or older – Volunteer Fire-fighter

▪      13 – 16 years – Junior Volunteer Fire-fighter if you have an active family member in the department

◦      Staff the station for at least 24hrs a month and regular Monday night training.

◦      Applicants are presented to the members of the department for acceptance as a Probationary Member

◦      90 day probationary period, during which time the applicant must meet minimum attendance and training requirements, work well with other fire fighters, gain a good knowledge of FD SOP’s and SOG’s

◦      After 90 day probation period, if applicant has met the above requirements, the applicant is presented to the members of the department for acceptance as a Active Member

Volunteer Fire fighter Training

◦      Training takes place on Monday nights from 7:00 – 10:00pm

◦      Occasionally there are weekend all-day training sessions.

◦      Members train towards different levels of Fire Fighter Certifications – Basic, Intermediate, Advanced

◦      Training guidelines are set forth by the State Firemen’s and Fire Marshall’s Association

◦      Medical response: All members are encouraged to obtain a medical certification. Once a member has achieved one of the EMT level certifications they are allowed to respond to medical calls. All members are CPR certified and several have an ECA Certification or higher

◦      Swift Water rescues;  sections of the TL/TR community is in a flood zone and requires the department to operate a water rescue boat. Fire fighters are trained in water rescue operations.



Auxiliary Volunteer

To become an Auxiliary Member you must be:

  • willing to attend monthly business meetings
  • able to help with all department fundraisers
  • willing to assist the department on calls/rehab
  • available to do public relation commitments
